Dramatically Improve Your Marketing Results With These 6 Simple Steps

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

By Debbie LaChusa What if there were things you could start doing now that could help you to market more successfully in the future? Even if you didnt have your marketing act together over the past year. Well, there are. (1) Review your past marketing activities and results Take some time to review all of your marketing activities and try to understand which ones worked best. And when I say worked best I mean, which ones resulted in more clients, more customers, more sales, or more growth for your business? Your goal each year should be to understand which marketing activities bring you more business and which ones do not, so you can concentrate on the activities that work, and delete the ones that do not. Even if you did not have an organized marketing plan, or marketing activities that you implemented consistently during the past year, if you are still in business today, then there must have been some form of marketing going on. (2) Broaden your definition of marketing Marketing isnt only things like running an advertisement, or sending out a direct mail piece. It’s anything you do that puts your business, product or service in front of the prospects you are trying to sell to. You may be surprised to realize youve been marketing more than you know! Any time you talk to someone about your business, product or service, in person, at an event, over the phone, or through a brochure or some form of media, you are marketing. Any time you send someone an email or a thank you card from your business, you are marketing. Be aware of any time you are communicating with current customers, or potential customers. Take the opportunity to make them aware of new products or services, special offers or programs, or even milestones or changes in your business. Do you include your business card every time you mail a letter to a client or prospect? Do you have an email signature that includes your business name, your phone number, your email address, your website address and possibly even your tagline? You should. You are reminding people about your products and services and making it easy for them to find out more if they so choose. If you truly believe that your products or services can enhance peoples lives, then it should be easy to share the word at every opportunity. After all, if people dont know about you, they cant benefit. Put this way, it is almost a disservice to NOT market. (3) See if you can track your sales to your marketing, either directly or indirectly Take a look at the marketing you did do, taking into consideration all of the activities mentioned above. Can you directly or indirectly track any new or increased business to these activities? An example of direct tracking might be: You attended a networking event and someone you gave your business card to, contacted you or made a purchase. An example of indirect tracking might be: You attended a networking event, and someone you gave your business card to, referred you to a friend, and that friend contacted you or made a purchase. For each marketing activity you did over the past year, ask yourself the following questions: (a) Did I get any new clients, customers or increased sales as a direct result, or an indirect result, of this activity? (b) If the answer is yes, quantify the result by asking yourself: How many new clients, customers or sales did it generate? If you can’t seem to track your past marketing activities, consider asking your current customers how they found out about you. You could do a survey that includes a number of customer satisfaction questions, but also includes a question to determine how they found out about you. If you have a handful of clients that you work closely with and you really dont know how they found you, pick up the phone and ask them. At the end of this exercise, you will have a list of all of your marketing activities, and the results connected to each one. (4) Separate those activities that resulted in business from those that did not Are there any activities on your list that did not result in new or additional business? If you gave these activities a good opportunity to bring you business, then maybe it’s time to consider dropping these activities and trying some new ones. After all, there is no sense continuing to spend money on marketing that has not proven to be effective for your business. Even if it has worked for someone else, it may not be a good marketing activity for you and your business. (5) Use this information to plan your marketing for next year Plan to spend more time, energy and/or money on those activities that brought you business and sales. These activities have proven themselves to be effective for your business, product or service. So odds are if you commit more to them, they will result in even more sales. And, if you really dont have any way to track your sales or new clients, dont beat yourself up. You are not alone. In fact, one of my biggest challenges as a marketing consultant has been to get my clients to track the effectiveness of their various marketing activities. Just make sure to remedy this now, once and for all. Commit to never implementing a marketing activity again without some way to track how effective it is. (6) Set up a way to track all future marketing activities Recognize the importance of tracking and make sure that you have a plan in place to track all of your future marketing activities. The simplest way to track is to simply ask each new customer where or how they found out about you. You may also want to consider including a code on any flyers or brochures that you distribute, and providing a reason for the customer to bring that flyer in when they come to make a purchase. Reasons to return the flyer could be to take advantage of a special offer, or to get a discount or free bonus gift. You can also do this by phone or on the Internet if that is how your customers make purchases. Simply ask them to provide you with the code on the brochure or flyer that they are calling or ordering from. Make sure the code is specific to the location or group of people that you distributed the flyer to. If you are networking or speaking to a group and someone gives you their business card and agrees to receive your free report or e-newsletter, make sure you include a reference in your contact database of the event where you met them. For every marketing activity you do put a plan in place to help you track all them. Effective tracking is by far one of the easiest ways to improve your marketing effectiveness. And when you zero-in on what marketing activities are most effective for your business, you will be able to focus your efforts on only those activities, and will be able to spend less and get more as a result. No Promotion Is Ever Wasted!

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

By Dr. Gary S. Goodman Every marketer wants to be clever, but how many of us rise to the occasion? For example, I dont know who invented the frequent flyer program, but I have to tip my hat to him or her. That innovation established customer loyalty and retention in an industry known for fickleness. But most of us plod along, doing what we can to build customer interest and generate a sense of value. Sometimes we hit, but more often we miss or we muddle through. Im here to tell you that failure is never what it seems to be, and of course, its never permanent. For instance, a few years ago I sent out one hundred thousand mailers that were some of the ugliest things you never saw. Believe me when I tell you, they were just a bunch of text on pages with no graphics, whatsoever. I was pitching a slate of seminars. They broke even. And I only got two clients from the mailing, as aftermarket. But one of them went to my seminar, and so I earned his tuition dollar, and then he brought me in-house. That consulting project netted over $300,000 in ten months. The other client I got was worth about $10,000, and the cost of the mailer was relatively cheap: $30,000 as I recall. But from a statistical standpoint, it was a flop. And I thought I was the biggest bozo in the world. But failure, magically, turned into success. You absolutely never know when or how a promotion will turn out. Like a horse race, favorites are not a sure thing. That also-ran, the scrappiest entry can surprise everybody, and bring in the biggest purse. Thats part of the joy of sports and marketing. So, keep plugging away, and expect a few good surprises along with the bad. Dr. Gary S. Goodman, President of Customersatisfaction.com, is a popular keynote speaker, management consultant, and seminar leader and the best-selling author of 12 books, including Reach Out & Sell Someone and Monitoring, Measuring & Managing Customer Service, and the audio program, The Law of Large Numbers: How To Make Success Inevitable, published by Nightingale-Conant. Marketing with MySpace?

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

By Jamie Clarkson For those who may not have heard of it, MySpace.com is an enormous “social networking” website that has taken the internet by storm. As of early 2007, it was estimated that nearly half of the American populace over the age of 14 had at least one account at MySpace, with the result of account numbers approaching 150 million as of this writing. Every day thousands of new accounts are created at MySpace, many of these for marketing purposes. But is it a good idea to use this vast resource for marketing and attempts at making money online? The story goes that MySpace was originally designed with musicians and artists in mind, even thought its founders Tom Anderson and Chris DeWolfe were clearly tried-and-true businessmen themselves whose previous businesses included selling email addresses to marketers, resulting in numerous complaints about spamming. The long and tumultuous history of MySpace ended up with young Tom and Chris making a fortune when MySpace was bought by megamedia maven Rupert Murdoch for hundreds of millions of dollars. Murdoch promptly aimed to turn MySpace into another of his corpulent cash cows. With such a background, it would seem that MySpace would be a rich mine for marketing and marketers, and many people believe that it is. In fact, many marketers have made thousands - some, rumor has it, even millions - of dollars on MySpace, and an entire industry of MySpace marketing techniques and products has cropped up, including ebooks, video courses and software. Some of these methods and products are legit, in the sense that they play by the MySpace rules, but a number of them violate MySpace’s rigid “anti-marketing” terms of service. This fact has not stopped either unwary or unscrupulous individuals from using these services to create a massive amount of accounts with automated software that includes the ability to add thousands of friends per day, for example, essentially developing a huge “mailing list” to send messages and bulletins to. MySpace’s non-marketing population, however, becomes peeved with the endless solicitations to download ringtones and engage in other marketing ploys. With enough complaints from the MySpace community, these accounts are quickly deleted, without notice. With such a large number of accountholders, however, not a few innocent individuals have gotten caught in this trap as well and had their accounts summarily removed. The question remains then, can the MySpace community bring fruits to its laborers? Technically, yes, because MySpace’s purported purpose is to showcase talent and creativity, such that musicians and artists, for example, are actually encouraged to market or “show themselves off.” All of the marketing prohibition appears odd in consideration of the fact that MySpace itself appears to have been devised with the desire of targeting the youthful demographic of 18-35, with its large amount of disposable income. MySpace itself uses the personal information provided by users to sell to them, but its TOS are evidence that it is jealously guarding its market. Nevertheless, even while adhering strictly to MySpace’s terms of service there are certainly “kosher” ways to make money on this megasite, and many will continue to do so. With an enormous online presence that has eclipsed even Google, it seems that MySpace and its bevy of hungry artists and marketers are here to stay. Jamie Clarkson has been making money online since 1997. Are You Using Payday Loans Properly?

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alex_Fir]Alex Fir A payday loan that is not used properly will typically lead to a lot of problems for you. If you were using this payday loan to pay a bill then you will also finish up in a lot of problems from the billing company. If you obtain the payday loan and spend it on something that is not relevant to the reason why you got the payday loan, then that spells problem. On the other hand, the payday loan company does not mind how you spend the money as long as you can give them the repayments that they have laid out for you. They do not care if you are in a mountain of debt; all they want is the cash just like every other company that may be on your back. You must use a payday loan watchfully or you will finish up with more companies on your back and no way out except for a bigger payday loan or possibly even a loan. You do not want to take the money from the payday loan company and then spend it irresponsibly on something that you enjoy or something completely different compared to what you had in mind for the money in the first place. If you use a payday loan properly, then it may very well be the only time that you must borrow the money from a payday loan company, and you will be safe from any kinds of debt that you may have hanging over your head. But if you used it incorrectly, then you will find that you will need the payday loan companies to help you over and over. This will create the worst credit history that you could possibly see in your mind’s eye, and a bad credit history will hang over your head for a long time to come. This will result in a difficult future for you all because of you not using a payday loan properly. 7 Tips To Accommodate Guests In Your New Apartment

Friday, October 12th, 2007

By Tina Barton Apartment-living is an attractive option for seniors who no longer need a big family home, or want to get the most out of their retirement savings by reducing extra costs. But downsizing your home doesnt prevent you from throwing successful family parties in your apartment! With simple planning, you can still bring everyone home for the holidays. 1. Plan your space Furnish your apartment with pieces that serve multiple purposes. Stools and pillows look great and can be used for extra seating. Tables that fold or expand can temporarily double your serving space. 2. Clear the Clutter Put away any knickknacks, counter clutter, and small decorative furniture. Your valuables will not only be safe, but you will have more surface space and the room will seem bigger and more inviting. 3. Delegate Once your children have grown out of calling peanut butter and pickles a dinner, ask them to help with the preparations! If each adult prepares an appetizer, desert or entre, your preparation time will be cut significantly, your kitchen will stay cleaner and everyone will be able to contribute to the day. 4. Make after-party arrangements Are people coming from out of town? Will alcohol be served? Is transportation available? If any of your guests will need overnight accommodation, make sure arrangements are made before the big day. A smaller home means less space for unexpected overnight guests. 5. Don’t forget the children If children are coming, make sure there is a safe space away from the excitement of the party available. In an apartment, a bedroom or office can be used for this purpose. Young children may become overwhelmed or tired before the day is through and having a ‘children’s only’ area will make sure that they enjoy the day as much as the adults. 6. Eat simply Unless you are planning a formal dinner, serve simple food that won’t stain clothes. If everyone can’t fit around a single table, skip the dinner time ordeal and allow your guests to mingle and graze the food. 7. Watch the clock Know when your guests are coming and leaving. If your first guest arrives early and the last guest leaves late, the day can quickly become long and overwhelming. Set a start and finish time for your gathering and you and your guests will get the most out of your time with each other. Moving into a rented apartment doesn’t mean you have to give up your family traditions. With just a bit of planning, you can still find room to accommodate everyone when celebrating family occasions. Why Use A Compressed Air Regulator?

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

By Bill Wade If you purchase a “do-it-yourself” type air compressor, or if you purchase any type of air compressor for that matter, check to make sure that it comes with an Air Regulator. If not, purchase one. You will be glad you did! An air regulator is a device that lowers the downstream air pressure. Downstream air is the air that’s moving from the regulator towards your application. Compressed air will flow from the compressor reservoir into the air regulator (this supply is called upstream air) and through a system of an internal diaphragm and springs, the regulator will maintain a constant downstream air pressure level, despite changes in the upstream supply pressure from the tank. Recognize that you can only use a compressed air regulator to increase the downstream air pressure up to the level of the upstream supply air pressure. An air regulator will not enable you to “dial up” the downstream air pressure higher than the upstream level. However, if you can figure out how to do that, do let me know, and we’ll both get rich! ;-} You will want to set the downstream air pressure from your regulator at a pressure level that is below the lowest air pressure that will be incoming from your air compressor. Here’s why. The compressor maximum pressure set point is the pressure level inside the compressor receiver at which the compressor shuts itself off. This is also known as the “cut out” pressure. When the cut out pressure is reached, the compressor stops compressing air. When you start to use compressed air from the compressor tank, the pressure inside starts to drop, and eventually the compressor will start again. This is the “cut in” pressure point. As a result, your application, be it an air tool or an air brush, will “see” varying pressures from the tank as the compressor cycles on and off between the two set points. For most applications, a varying air pressure supply isn’t satisfactory and it is particularly problematical for folks that use compressed air to spray paint. Despite your best efforts with the air brush, if the supply air pressure is constantly changing, so too will the quality of your work. This brings us back to the why you will always want to have an air regulator installed in the line between the compressor and your application. If you set the downstream air pressure at a pressure level BELOW the cut in pressure level of the air compressor, in theory, the air pressure to your application should never change. As the air compressor goes through its normal cut-in and cut-out cycle your air regulator ensures that your downstream device will see a steady, non-fluctuating, supply of compressed air. This is theoretical only, unfortunately. If your application consumes more compressed air than your compressor can generate, even though you have set your air regulator at a “safe” level, eventually the air pressure from the tank will fall below the level your regulator is set for, and the downstream device will see a steadily diminishing air pressure supply too; this even though your compressor may have cut-in, and is trying desperately to build up a supply of compressed air inside the tank. This is why you really want to know how much air you need for your application to ensure that your air compressor has enough capacity to oversupply your needs. Check out details of this at ABOUT-air-compressors. com! Know that air pressure regulators come with different levels of accuracy with the least accurate being, as you might guess, the least expensive. Most general purpose compressed air regulators will have an accuracy of 3-5 PSI, meaning that the actual air pressure that your device is being supplied through the regulator will vary within that range, despite what it says on the gauge. If you need more accuracy, opt for a precision regulator, and depending on the manufacturer, you may be able to get a downstream air pressure within a .5 PSI accuracy of the pressure reading on the gauge. General purpose air pressure regulators normally have an operating range in the area of of 0 - 120 PSI. Others will be rated for pressures of 0-100 or 0-150 PSI. You can also get air regulators with a narrower and more specialty oriented range of pressures such as: 0-10 PSI, 0-20, 20-60 PSI and so on. At the other end of the scale, you can purchase regulators that can safely handle many thousands of PSI. For most do-it-yourself types, a general compressed air regulator with a range of 0-100 PSI will do just fine. Bill Wade’s experience in compressed air and other industries spans decades; from field sales positions through to the corporate presidential office. His sales agency represents a select group of industrial firms. More Great First Date Tips for Guys

Monday, October 8th, 2007

By Jack Strom Guys: When you’re out with a lady, there are some things you might or might not do that could make her uncomfortable. These are most important to know about for the very first date - particularly if you’re on a blind date or you’re on the first date with someone you met online. We’ll assume you’re dressed properly and groomed well, and move on to some of the less obvious tips that could help your first date be a huge hit. First and foremost: Don’t devour your lady with your eyes. No matter how beautiful she might be, women are very uncomfortable with - and sometimes ticked off by - guys undressing them with their eyes. Along the same lines, be sure you don’t make everything you say seem overly romantic, sexual, or suggestive. While there are exceptions to every rule, in general women don’t like this on the first date. They want to feel more comfortable with a man before allowing too much intimacy, and often this applies even if you’ve had suggestive telephone or online conversations in the past. At the same time though, you don’t want to appear too desperate or needy. Women don’t always like to admit it, but they do tend to be more attracted to stronger, capable, confident men. And I’m not talking muscle strength here guys… women want men who are emotionally and psychologically strong in some way. This is where intelligence comes into play too: Women talk about wanting to have intelligent conversations with men, and this generally is another form of strength: Mental strength. So, appearing too desperate or needy is likely to turn a woman off. This means you should leave the details of your financial agonies at home for the night, and don’t obsess over how lonely you are, or how badly you were hurt in your last relationship. Now, since this is the first date you want to offer to meet your lady in a public place instead of picking her up at home. This is particularly important if it’s a blind date, or a date with someone you met online or through a telephone dating service. Meeting the lady in a public place usually helps her feel more safe and secure. It’s also helpful to make your first date be something casual. Choosing a place that allows you to talk and get to know each other tends to be easiest, and a favorite choice is a coffee shop. Most coffee shops allow you to talk for as short or as long of a time as you’d like, and this gives both of you an easy “out” if things don’t seem to click between you. Another popular first date option is going out to dinner or meeting for drinks. If you decide to do this, be sure you do not get drunk. In fact, know your alcohol limit and do not allow yourself to get close to it. Most of us are quite ugly when we’ve had too much alcohol, and this will usually ruin a first date very quickly. If both you and the lady decide you’d like to do something more than coffee or drinks for your first date, try to choose something that will be fun and memorable. I’ll assume you know something about what she likes to do, so try choosing your activities within those parameters. Don’t however, break the rule about secluded places. Even if your date loves to go on remote hikes in the wilderness, this is not usually the best option for your first date because it’s remote and secluded, so she may feel too vulnerable for comfort. I know the above suggestions are not quite concrete enough for most men, and to add to this confusion… some women will react differently than others will. So these rules aren’t set in stone, but they are excellent, safe suggestions for the first date. Once you’ve had a great first date, then you’re able to get a better feel for the specific likes and dislikes of the woman, thus you can adjust your do’s and don’ts for the next time.
