Overview on Ginkgo Biloba Therapy

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

By Jean Helmet Ginkgo biloba is the main ingredient of some of the most effective memory supplements nowadays. However, before proceeding to a ginkgo biloba therapy, people are advised to ask for medical advice. The doctors are able to determine the normal dosage and will inform the patients about the possible side effects that may appear. The ginkgo biloba therapy is suitable to all the people who experience mild to medium memory problems. The effects of the herb become visible in short time. The ginkgo biloba extract includes over 40 benefic substances, but flavonoids and terpenoids are responsible for most of the benefits of this herb. These two types of antioxidants fight the free radicals that otherwise would cause cancer and heart diseases, or would help in the development of such health problems. The bad effects of the free radicals are furthermore increased by the environmental toxins, such as radiation, air pollution or cigarette smoke. Flavonoids and terpenoids improve the immune system by stopping the action of the free radicals. Patients who suffer from bad blood circulation may also want to follow the ginkgo biloba therapy. Some of the substances contained by this herb relax the blood vessels and help them to expand. When the blood does not circulate properly, the brain is affected, too. Furthermore, ginkgo biloba prevents cholesterol from changing into plaque. If the transformation succeeds, plaque is deposited on the arteries and the blood will circulate with difficulty. Eventually, this leads to stroke, which is one of the causes of memory loss. In addition, stroke represents a fatal risk to ones health. Therefore, the ginkgo biloba therapy can also be followed by people who suffer from hypercholesterolemia. People who suffer from certain eye problems can also find relief by following the ginkgo biloba therapy. Diabetes and age-related macular degeneration can affect the retina and thus determine undesirable health problems. For example, age-related macular degeneration, which usually affects older people, can lead to blindness, if left untreated. Ginkgo biloba is one of the best resources people can use for enhancing the pain-free walking distance. Ginkgo biloba helps people to improve most of their mental processes, such as memory, learning and thinking. It also helps a bit to reduce the depression. The ginkgo biloba therapy proves to be effective also when used on people who suffer from Alzheimers disease. However, some side-effects, such as headaches, gastrointestinal discomfort, diarrhea and nausea may be noticed, but only in seldom cases. Fishing for a Bond

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

By Antonio Salgado Fishing is a versatile activity; you can do it alone or with family and friends. You can compete with others or with Mother Nature. You can do it for sport or as a therapy to get away and relax from boredom and routine. That is why most of us make of fishing our primary recreational activity and that is why it is becoming so popular in America as well as in other countries. According to some surveys, more than 60 million Americans preferred fishing above some other sports like soccer or foot-ball. Like any other sport, fishing also has rules and among the most important ones are letting go the fish you wont eat and getting a fishing license before going to fish. To get a fishing license you have to check for the requirements and regulations your state and/or country have. In some cases you need a conservation license before getting your actual fishing license. The age is not important to get a license, but usually kids up to 11 years old can get the license for free. I think one of the most important things for making fishing a memorable experience is learning if you have never fished before- and planning. If you are new to fishing you can start by doing some research on the Internet. There are some good sites where you can find useful tips for beginners. Another thing you might want to do, is going to a fishing store and ask. Usually they have directories, guides or instructors, you might even find there someone who is willing to teach you. Be mindful of your budget, you dont need state of the art gear to learn, you can get inexpensive secondhand gear until you are experienced enough to choose the best tools for you. Once you get a grip on the basics, you can keep practicing almost everywhere, the backyard can be a good place for practice if it is big enough, but be careful if you decide to do it at your work cubicle, you might fish something nasty inside the coffee cup of a co-worker or poke out someones eyesspecially your boss. The next step on making fishing a memorable thing is the planning stage. Planning is as important as having the knowledge on fishing. In my experience the first thing to consider is LOCATION. You do not want to go to a fish desert. Location also involves the type of fishing techniques involved and the gear youll be needing like boats, tools or special fishing-wear, the kind of bait you will be taking and the most important, where you, your family and friends will have a great time. For example, Alabama promotes their lakes and open banks for fishing; in some of them you dont even need a boat to fish. But, why is it so important taking your family with you? Firstly, according to Family Life First - an organization dedicated to promote the need of spending quality and useful time with families - in the last 20 years, children have been spending less time doing outdoor activities and parents reducing the time they spend with their families all together. Evolutionary Psychologist also points out the importance of family or group bonds and member collaboration, as well as teaching-learning skills handed from the parents. Getting every member of the family involved on the trip planning creates a stronger bond between all the group, it also makes everyone happy. I still have some memories from my fishing trips with my family and familys friends. Besides going out fishing in a group to help to tighten family ties, it also has some therapeutical values like stress relief and to becoming more structured in your life if its done properly. This without mentioning the enjoying values and benefits of interacting with nature. Another ability you can get from fishing is cooking. There is nothing like preparing and grilling or baking a fresh caught fish, using, creating, modifying recipes and taking out the inner Chef in you. Fishing is good for you, and is fun in group. The more you do it, the more youll like it and learn from it. You will also discover that fishing is not only taking a rod and a bait, you can also Bear fish or even use a bow!!! Happy fishing. What Do Vacations And Your Business Have In Common?

Monday, January 14th, 2008

By Debbie LaChusa It’s summertime. That means if you’re like most people you’ve got a vacation planned. Maybe you’re hopping on a plane to visit a tropical locale like Hawaii. Or perhaps you’re packing up the kids in the car and going to visit family in Missouri. You might even be gathering up your camping gear and heading to the mountains for some outdoor recreation and relaxation. Whatever your vacation plans, I’m willing to bet that you do have PLANS. Odds are you’re not going to just wake up one day this summer, and hop in the car and start driving. Or head to the airport to try and catch a flight. When we take vacations, we create a plan. First we decide where we want to go. Then we research the different ways to get there. Will we drive? Will we fly? Will we take a train? We take into consideration how much time it will take to get there and how much it will cost. Then we make plans that fit within our budget and accomplish our goals. By the time most of us leave on our vacation we’ve got all the details of how we’re getting there, what we’re doing while we’re there, and how and when we’re returning home, outlined in an itinerary. This is just one example of an area of life that we always plan. Others include going to college, getting a job, getting married, starting a family, buying a car, buying a home, throwing a birthday parties, celebrating an anniversary … the list goes on and on. For all of these activities we get a clear picture of what we want (our goal) and we create a plan to get there. So why don’t we do the same thing when it comes to our business? That’s a very good question. If you think about it, you’ve got more at stake when it comes to your business than you do many of these other activities. Your livelihood is at stake. Your ability to not only pay your bills and meet your obligations, but also to live the live you want to live. In fact, if your business isn’t successful, you can’t do most of these other activities that we are so good at planning. So I want to ask you, do you have a marketing plan right now that spells out what your goals are for your business? And how you plan to get there? If not, start thinking about how big you want your business to be. How much money do you want to make? How many clients do you want to serve? And, once you’ve determined this, develop a plan to get there. Can Taking Baking Soda for Heartburn Help or Hurt?

Thursday, January 10th, 2008

By Chris Woodall If you ask many experts today what is the best remedy that is out on the market that you do not need a prescription for and they will tell you that baking soda is at the top of the list. If you add one teaspoon of baking soda to a glass of warm water and continue to sip on the drink than in most cases this should be enough to relieve any suffering you may be experiencing. Is Baking Soda Safe for Heartburn? According to experts, baking soda for heartburn is just like any other antacid and it that should not be taken in excess. The proper use of baking soda for heartburn could be beneficial but excessive use of baking soda could actually cause more damage than good to the body. Note that if a person takes more baking soda than necessary to relieve that burning sensation brought about by heartburn, the baking soda could actually neutralize the acid of the stomach itself. Since the stomach would need acid to digest food, it will compensate by producing more acid to replace the acid that have been neutralized by the baking soda. Baking soda for heartburn is agreeable as long as it is taken in moderation. However, when it is misused, it can cause a lot of harmful effects. baking soda has a lot of sodium in it, which is not really good for the body. People who are suffering from high blood pressure should take baking soda with caution because excess sodium in the body could stimulate the rise of blood pressure. Heartburn Prevention Although baking soda for heartburn is readily available and could relieve you or discomforts, prevention of heartburn is still the best solution. To prevent heartburn, you should avoid food that could trigger this condition. Fatty food, raw onions, tomato-based products, food with vinegar in it, chocolate and other food that contains strong flavors could trigger heartburn and is best avoided. If you must eat these types of food, you should eat them in small proportions so as not to upset your digestive system. Stress and bad posture could trigger heartburn. According to studies, people ho have bad posture and those who are constantly subjected to stress could suffer from heartburns . Although baking soda for heartburn could help relieve the discomforts, chronic heartburn and the use of baking soda to relieve it may lead to other problems in the future. Promotions for Mobile Detailers

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By Lance Winslow Mobile businesses are quite unique in the way they must promote to stay in the customers mind; it takes creativity, savvy planning and a lot of listening to your customers. After years running a franchise system in 23 states with mobile detailing units everywhere. We learned quickly that professional auto detailing is more than just showing up on time, maintaining your customer base and looking sharp. Mobile detailers know you need to create promotions which are exciting. Here are a few ideas for you: Referral Bonuses This program worked very well for the Alpha-Beta supermarket chain and phone giant MCI. Alpha-Beta simply went on TV and asked people to tell a friend, and turned this into a well-known slogan that everyone relates to their stores. MCI went a little further by offering people bonuses for referring their friends to MCI. Everyone has heard about the friends and family program. Referral bonuses in the form of discounts, free washes, and customer awards work very well for us also. Free Washes For Receptionists Offer the receptionist of a large building a free car wash in exchange for telling others about your services and informing them of your scheduled stop at their building. Sometimes one free wash is enough to have them telling everyone about your great service. Sometimes theyll expect it each time you are working at their building. Either way, if their position as the communications link of a large company or building helps get the word out about your services, this referral bonus can pay off. If you dont get many customers after a while, offer the receptionist a discount price for her car wash. After all if she brings you one executive who up-sells himself to a full $200.00 detail, that car wash was well worth it. Customer Awards If a customer refers a lot of clients to your business, you might give them a certificate that entitles them to a free wash, or a certificate they can pass on to a friend, such as a Customer of the Month certificate. Asking For Referrals You should always ask for referrals, as asking for a referral is the easiest way to get them. It is also a great way to build your business. Why wait? Many times, your good customers will be glad to give a referral they may not have thought to give had you not asked. Thanking Customers Always thank customers for a referral. Tell them theyre one of your best customers and thank them very much for their help. This involves them in the growth of your business and will motivate them to continue referring people your way. Make sure that you always have some type of exciting promotion to pitch, something worth talking about and your customers will love it. Everyone wants to save money, everyone wants a bargain, everyone loves the word FREE, after all isnt that your favorite price? Well it is theirs too. Bible Study - The Gospel According to Mark 1:1-3

Tuesday, January 8th, 2008

By Clyde Annach The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Mark opens the book not with a formal declaration describing the purpose of the book but with a statement about the subject of the book. Let’s examine the first verse. 1. What is Mark by using the Greek word Arche (ar-khay’) which means for beginning, trying to get across to his readers? That he is writing about the start of the Gospel. 2. How does this differ from the beginnings in Genesis (1:1). The Genesis account is the creation of the world. Mark is talking about the fulfillment of God’s plan of redemption. 3. Why does Mark use language reminiscent of Genesis 1:1 to start his Gospel? As a reminder of God’s activity in the history of the world. 4. We have all heard that the word Gospel means good news, but just what is a Gospel? A Gospel is the telling of God’s plan for the redemption of fallen man. 5. What does Romans chapter 1 verses 2 through 4 tell us about the nature of a Gospel? The gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 1:2-4 (NIV) John Calvin wrote a Gospel is a testimony of the revealed salvation, which has been formerly promised to the fathers in an uninterrupted succession of ages. It points out at the same time , a distinction between the promises which kept the hope of the people in suspense, and this joyful message, by which God declares that he has accomplished those things which he had formerly required them to expect. That is to say, an illustration of God’s stated plan of salvation and its fruition through time and eternity in Jesus Christ. 2 It is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” 3 “a voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ” Mark wrote his Gospel for Gentile believers, probably in Rome. Because they lacked knowledge of the Old Testament, he was not able to use quotations from it with any frequency. In verses 2 and 3 he makes an exception. The phrase Mark chose to start verse 2, it is written carries an authoritative quality recognized by Greeks, Romans and Jews. In the first century Greek world, this formula frequently opens the introductions to a law or legal declaration. In the Old Testament it would be recognized as claiming authority over the reader. 1. What is Mark saying about Isaiah by using the phrase It is written That Isaiah was an authority figure. That Isaiah’s authority came from God. Verses 2 and 3 are actually a collage coming from different sources. The quotation from verse 2, I will send my messenger ahead of you echoes the first part of Malachi 3:1. “Behold, I send my messenger and he will prepare the way before me. Malachi (3:1) (ESV) 1. What is God saying to Malachi who was looking forward and Mark who was looking backward to Christ by using the word See or Behold? This is coming from God Pay attention this is important This is what I want you to tell my people. 2. In both Mark 1:2 and Malachi 3:1 John is called my messenger, What is the ultimate message John is to pass along. The Messiah has come The Kingdom of God has come Verse 3 is a more exact representation of Isaiah 40:3. A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the LORD; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Isaiah 40:3 (NIV). It was a common practice for Jewish teachers to combine texts or parts of texts, if they contained common keywords. Teachers were thought to be so learned in the scriptures that they were not required to specify which text or even mention its context. Verse 3, “A voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’ ” 1. Mark says the prophet was a voice of one calling in the desert, what was his calling to be? To prepare Gods people for His coming. 2. Based on what we know a Gospel to be, What was the Lord is coming to do? Restore the relationship between God and His people. 3. Reflecting back on verse 1, who does Mark say was coming? Jesus Christ God Himself. 4. Who then was coming to do what for whom? Jesus Christ was coming back to provide a path to salvation for God’s people. Verse 2, “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way” Paraphrasing Malachi 3:1, Mark would have known that Malachi chapter 3 was about God coming in judgement to set things aright among His people. 1. What would this have meant Mark was trying to convey to his Gentile believers? Jesus was God He came and died for their sins Jesus coming meant the start of the Gospel age. In Luke 16:16-17 Jesus himself speaks of John’s role “The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John. Since that time, the good news of the kingdom of God is being preached, and everyone is forcing his way into it. It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.” Luke 16:16-17 (NIV) 1. What did Jesus say was inaugurated with John’s message? The Kingdom of God 2. How does it affect your thinking knowing the Kingdom of God includes the time since John? Clyde Annach is the operator of the Web Log Aha! Clyde’s been thinking again! Doll Collecting - How to Identify Your Vintage Doll

Monday, January 7th, 2008

By Katharine Swan Do you have vintage dolls from your childhood that you would like to identify? Have you found a doll at a yard sale or thrift store, and would like to know more about her? Some dolls can be identified by their makers mark. Others are more difficult to identify; not all dolls were marked, and some companies sold their molds to other doll manufacturers, creating a host of “look-alikes.” Marked Dolls Many of the well-known doll manufacturers marked their dolls, so the first thing to do is look for markings. Most markings are on the back of the dolls neck, right underneath the hairline, or on the dolls back. However, some dolls may have marking on the inside of their arms or the soles of their feet. If the doll has her original clothing, that should be checked for identifying marks, too. Many doll manufacturers sewed tags into their dolls clothing, stating who the doll was or what company made her. Other dolls clothing had the dolls name embroidered or silk-screened directly onto the fabric, such as some Madame Alexander Maggie and Cosmopolitan Miss Ginger outfits. Even once you find a dolls markings or a tag in her clothing, you may need to research the marking before you can find out anything about the doll. For example, many American Character dolls were marked simply “A.C.” If you dont know much about dolls, you may not know what that means. And even if a doll is marked more legibly — i.e. Madame Alexander dolls were frequently marked “Alexander” or “Mme. Alexander” — you will still need to do some research before you know which doll it was. Unmarked Dolls Unfortunately, many vintage dolls were not marked. Identifying these dolls require a little more work to identify them. Research the doll. There are many doll reference books on the market, many of which provide detailed color photographs and descriptions of the different dolls. Search every one of these books you can get your hands on, comparing your doll to the pictures and descriptions. Use online resources. You can also research your doll online, as there is a host of websites that can help you identify your doll. Many collectors who are passionate about their hobby have set up sites about vintage dolls and collecting. In addition, eBay provides an excellent resource, where you can view pictures of dolls as well as their prices at auction. Ask an expert. If youve searched and searched and just cant identify your doll, it might be time to ask an expert. You can take your doll to a doll hospital or store and ask if they know what it is. Doll shows and sales can be a valuable resource, as youll find many people there who know and are passionate about all kinds of dolls. You can also have the doll appraised, and hope that the appraiser can tell you something about your doll. Persistence Pays Off! If you are trying to identify a doll, there are many resources available to you. No matter what your doll is, there is sure to be someone who knows something about her. Be creative and persistent, and your efforts will pay off! Katharine Swan is a longtime doll collector and enthusiast. Wedding Photography: Backup Strategies for your Digital Photos (Part 2)

Friday, January 4th, 2008

By Juan Carlos Torres 7. Drive mirroring through software: Drive mirroring basically means that you can use a program such as Norton Ghost, Acronis or Drive Image to make an exact copy of all of the contents of your hard drive. The process can be done manually or automatically. The data image can be done on DVD, CD, to another hard drive or across the network to another computer. Some programs allow incremental backups where initially you create a full backup and after that only the files that have been changed from the last backup are backed up. One of the advantages of drive mirroring is that it allows the backup of the operating system files along with the data. In the case of a computer crash you can replace the failed drive run a disaster recovery CD or floppy and restore your computer to a working state in a matter of minutes. 8. File synchronization: File synchronization programs have been around for a long time. They allow you to have a real time copy of the data in two places simultaneously. The synchronization can be set to happen at a specific time or in real time. The idea is that if you change a file on the master computer the corresponding file on the remote computer also changes. 9. External hard drives: With the price of hard drives dropping everyday they present a great alternative for backups. Units equipped with USB or Firewire ports are the most recommended. They are portable enough to be taken offsite. You can either buy ready to use units or you can buy an enclosure that holds several drives and populate it with hard drives. Some of the ready to use units come with a basic backup programs that allows one touch backup of specified directories or complete hard drives. 10. Drive Trays: Computers can be easily equipped with hard drive trays that allow the easy removal of hard drives to be stored away from the computer for safety. The advantage over portable USB or Firewire is that internal hard drives use a faster connection to the computer. 11. Backup to disk: As hard drive prices have been decreasing, backing up to disk has become commonplace as a replacement to tape backups. A server or a unit attached to the computer is set up with several disks and the backup software is scheduled to backup the files to a different disk every day of the week. The advange is that there is not tape library to manage and the process can be totally automated. In addition the process is much faster than with tape. As we can see there are many options for file backups with different levels of reliability, automation and price. Ideally, the wedding photographer will use a combination of the above backup strategies. Relying on a single strategy can be fatal to your wedding files, your business, and professional reputation. Setting up scheduled backups is a must. With the data volume that the typical wedding photographer deals these days a couple of days without backups can create a big liability in the event of a disaster. Keeping a backup copy at a remote location is also a must. It doesn’t matter how many copies of your data you have, if all of them reside at the same location they are potentially exposed to the same level of risk. Some photographers have found that for weddings more than a couple of years old it is wise to give a copy of all the files to the client. This makes the client happy and the photographer gets an extra backup copy. It is also recommended that you take the outmost precautions at your place of business including an alarm system and that you physically secure your computers with antitheft cables and that you keep all the backup media in a safe. Also, your working computers need to be equipped with surge protectors and battery backup systems to avoid damage due to lighting or electricity spikes. In addition to the above strategies the wedding photographer must have liability and disaster recovery insurance. To some, the above guidelines may seem paranoid.
