How To Lose 15 Pounds The Easy Way

Friday, March 14th, 2008

By Carrie Lauth Would you like to lose 15 pounds without diet or exercise? It’s entirely possible to do just that…I know because my husband recently accomplished this. How did he do it? I have been gently informing my husband for years that sugary carbonated drinks can destroy your health. I don’t buy them and don’t serve them to our kids. Despite that, he kept his habit of drinking a Coke every day at work. Hubby started having reflux symptoms. The burning was keeping him up at night and causing him a lot of pain. He also visited the Dentist and found that he needed several thousands of dollars in dental work. Carbonated drinks can contribute to reflux, and of course they wreak havoc on the teeth! These two things combined gave him the motivation he needed to quit the habit of drinking sodas. Fast forward two months. I noticed hubby looked thinner, but it didn’t seem to me that he was changing any of his habits. He told me that he had lost 15 pounds and reminded me that he had given up his daily soda pop, replacing it with green tea. Aha! Several studies have pointed to a connection between soda consumption and weight gain. One such study, at Harvard University, tracked over 50,000 women and found that those whose soda drinking increased had bigger rises in body-mass index than those who drank less or the same. Other studies show that soda consumption goes hand in hand with eating excessive calories. Soda pop has a lot of empty calories in the form of high fructose corn syrup, which acts differently in the body than other sweeteners. For example, high fructose corn syrup doesn’t make you feel full or trigger insulin production to help your body cope with the sugar load like other sweeteners do. Additionally, by switching to green tea, my husband helped his weight loss efforts… effortlessly. Green tea has been shown to trigger weight loss. According to a study conducted at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, green tea helps the body burn more calories. If you give up sodas you’ll also lower the amount of fat in your blood and decrease your diabetes risk. A recent study pointed out that drinking just one sugary beverage every day (such as those fancy ice cream coffee drinks or carbonated beverages) can nearly double your risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes. If you want to lose 15 pounds the easy way with no dieting or extra exercise, try cutting out the soda pop! Vacation Retreats Designed for Your Special Interest Add Fun to Your Vacation

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

By Peter Makuta Wouldn’t it be nice to spend your vacation with your true interest or real passion? And wouldn’t it be nice to be catered to at the same time leaving the interruptions of your daily life behind? Consider a vacation retreat where your special interest, or your hobby, is the focus. You’ll have no option but to meet a lot of like-minded folks, and simply have a good time. A retreat can be about something that you have been involved in doing for a long time, or it can be about something you always wanted to do, or at least you think you want to do. In the latter case, a retreat could be a great way to get introduced to a new interest. Retreats generally accept a newbie with open arms. But before you go, let them know that you are new to the subject and ask them how you would fit in. Anything from scrapbook, art and painting, quilting, story writing, music workshops and song writing are just a sampling of ideas that could be the focus of a vacation retreat. You will be surprised to know how many options for retreats and workshops are out there. Here’s a sampling of how some of the more popular hobby vacation retreats work. Surprisingly, scrapbook and quilting retreats are among the most popular hobby retreats. As you would expect, these really are women’s retreats. The idea is to join a bunch of other ladies sharing a common hobby for a time of fellowship, great food, and a diversion away from day to day life. There are also retreats that cover all the artistic disciplines including visual arts and performing arts. Many do cater more to the professional artist with formal workshops and seminars. These are more like conventions in other business professions. However, there are also endless opportunities for those who pursue art as a hobby, and for the pure enjoyment and satisfaction of expressing ones creatively. Some also encourage you to bring your spouse or older children, whether they are an artist or not. Artist retreats are often found where there is a great deal of natural beauty, such as a country estate or an exotic destination. They include cruise retreats where you visit several ports. Some are located in the Caribbean or Costa Rica. What an opportunity to express your creative interpretation of the world beyond your daily life, and have the opportunity to try out new techniques. Artist retreats will also combine other activities, such as hiking to a particular place that offers inspiration. Local sightseeing, spa activities or wine tasting are also part of many retreats. Writing retreats have a lot of similarities to art retreats. Inspiration for creative ideas, along with the opportunity to focus, learn, and create, is common. There are retreats that may even combine meditation along with advice, critiques, and time alone to write. There is a large selection of hobby retreats that have been around for quite some time. But organizing a retreat yourself is not as hard as you may think. If you already have some friends with some common interest, or you belong to a club, you can put together your own retreat. Finding a lodge to support your group, and putting together even a loose agenda can be easier than you think. Many lodges have group rates, and would be glad to support your event. If you put a retreat together, to start out, just keep it simple, and fun. So consider a retreat for your next vacation. But be careful, you just might get hooked on them! How to Hire a Great Marketing Person

Monday, March 10th, 2008

By Cherie Burbach During one interview at a Milwaukee-area construction company, I was asked Whats the deal with marketing people anyways? Why cant they keep a job for more than a year? Well they can, of course, keep jobs for lengthy periods of time, but the fact remains that many marketing people do not stay very long at the same firm. While every situation is different, two popular reasons for this are that the marketing person gets frustrated and leaves or the firm gets frustrated with marketing and/or sales and lets the staff go. Either way, these issues are a cost to companies in training and recruiting, not to mention the hit their marketing plan takes every time someone new needs to resurrect it. So how do you hire a great marketing person that will want to stay at your company for the long haul? Here are some tips. 1. If you currently do not have a marketing person at your company, first determine what level of marketing you need. Do you need consultants to fill in from time to time, or a full-time staff person? Does this person need to be well-versed in marketing and direct the effort, or is the marketing and brand so well established they only need to take direction? Be cautious in what you decide here and take an honest look at your organization. Many owners think marketing runs itself, and they only find out otherwise when they lose a great marketing person and have to replace them. 2. Develop a marketing plan so you know exactly what direction you want your marketing staff to take. A marketing plan is not the same as your business plan. Its definitely not your sales plan. A true marketing plan not only maps out where you expect to go but how youll get there. Without it, you are sailing across an endless sea without a sail, map, or guide. You are lost. And whats worse, you probably dont even know it. 3. Define the types of skills you want your marketing person to have. If they need to write press releases and proposals, make sure they know how to do it. Interview them at length, ask for samples of previous work, and test them during the interview. Its not unreasonable to ask someone to write a mock press release, for example, during their interview. 4. Be absolutely clear in developing your marketing persons job description. One of the biggest reasons great marketing people leave is because they end up doing work that was never even talked about in the interview. Dont make assumptions that your marketing person will just know everything you want them to do because its different from organization to organization. (Not every marketing person plans the company picnic or orders letterhead, for example. Nor should they.) Lay out even the smallest of duties in the job description and make sure all expectations are understood from the beginning. 5. Meet with your marketing person frequently and gage their happiness quotient. Youll know when youre happy or dissatisfied with your marketing persons performance, but unless you speak with them directly about how their position is progressing or how happy they are with your firm you wont know whether or not theyre ready to leave. If your marketing person talks to you, listen. It might make the difference between keeping a great marketing person or having to go through the process of recruiting a new one… again. _______________________________________ Cherie Burbach is the author of The Difference Now, A New Dish, and At the Coffee Shop. Bextra Withdrawal Could Be Just the Beginning for Pfizer

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Charles_Essmeier] Charles Essmeier The pharmaceutical industry is a tremendously profitable one, as anyone who reads the business pages of their newspaper can see. Although it can take years to develop a new drug and bring it to market, the profits obtained from a breakthrough drug can be staggering. Last year Merck sold about $2.5 billion worth of Vioxx, and Pfizer sold about $1.3 billion worth of Bextra. The profits are huge, but so are the losses if a problem should develop with a pharmaceutical product. Pfizer voluntarily withdrew the popular anti-inflammatory drug [http://www.bextra-info.net] Bextra from the market last month, and their stock has suffered from both the loss of sales and the potential for a large number of product liability lawsuits. Pfizer may have to endure a double whammy this year as the FDA announced that they are investigating reports that the impotence drug Viagra may be linked to cases of blindness in male users. Cialis and Levitra were also mentioned in the report, although most of the cases involved the use of Viagra. The FDA reports shouldnt cause alarm; the agency says that it is investigating fewer than 50 incidents of blindness in patients who use a drug that has been used by more than twenty million people since its introduction seven years ago. The FDA investigation says less about the likelihood of blindness in patients than it does about the agencys own concerns about its reputation. The FDA rightly insists upon rigorous testing of drugs before they reach the market in the name of public safety. But that coin has two sides, and there are those who say that the agency is too quick to approve potentially dangerous drugs and others who say that the agencys testing isnt thorough enough. Adding fuel to the fire are the recent memos obtained from Merck employees that suggest that the company was aggressively marketing Vioxx even though their sales staff knew the drug was potentially dangerous. There may be no link between Viagra and blindness at all, as the form of sudden blindness alleged to have been caused by Viagra use is common to the sorts of patients who have erectile disfunction. The FDA is just being cautious, as they should be. Further tests will determine if there is an actual link. The party likely to suffer immediately is Pfizer, as stockholders, already concerned about Bextra lawsuits, drove the stock price lower immediately upon the release of the Viagra news. Sales will probably decrease, too, as patients who are now accustomed to reading about drugs being withdrawn from the market may shy away from the product until further tests are done. That could present a huge income for Pfizer, as they currently sell about $2 billion worth of Viagra each year. The drug business is a profitable one, but like any business, comes with risks. This year, it would seem that Pfizer is getting a double dose of bad medicine. Copyright 2005 by Retro Marketing. Friendship Between Husband and Wife

Friday, March 7th, 2008

By Robert Swayze Often couples deny to be best of friends but most of the time people truly in love to each other are good friends. Friendship gifts them a natural will power to stay beside and always generate a strong bonding through which they start understanding each other more closely. When it comes to a successful relationship for the lifetime, friendship is a most important part of it. Husband and wife truly become best friends at the twilight of their life. All other relations seem vain and only true partnership continues. That is the most ideal time when they really cherish the strength of the trust grown in between them. Its all about caring, sharing and loving each other, but at the same time it it about a healthy friendship. Friendship definitely grow spontaneously among lovers in any true love relationship. When your partner has started to understand words unuttered, began to read your mind as an open book… offer you help before you ask for it, and thus fulfill all the needs and limit, it is a result of true friendship. There are many famous couples who were friends at first and then started dating each other. When friends become couples often their marriage last more than ordinary couples. The sense of aloofness and insecurity hardly come because friendship suffice the fact how better you understand and fulfill each other. Sometimes couples also become friends after marriage. And because of the strength of the bonding, their marriage lasts of a lifetime. These are some couples who are lifetime friends: 1.Ulysses and Penelope 2.Pierre Curie and Marie Curie 3.Bill Clinton and Hilary Clinton 4.Bill Gates and Melinda Gates 5.David and Victoria Beckham 6.Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi 7.P B Shelly and Merry Shelly 8.Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt 9.John Travolta and Kelly Preston 10.Ike and Tina Turner Research suggest that 66.54% successful married couples over the world are good friends. Friendship does not mean only helping mates but it also mean supporting your partner, specially in case of married couples. According to some noted psychologists friends who get married face certain problems. They hesitate to involve sexually and physically at the primary level. But when Cupid’s arrow strikes, very few can escape. Many philosophers believe that friendship is often born after living together and understanding each other’s needs. Anointed versus Talented: What’s the Difference?

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Tony Snipes Talent is defined as: Natural endowment or ability of a superior quality”. The word talent comes from a Greek word that also tells us about something of great value as described in Matthew 25:15-30. Talent for artists is the skill and natural ability to create. It can be enhanced by training and practice. Being anointed is the very power of God that uses that talent to accomplish God’s purpose or plan. In the scriptures the actual practice of anointing was to apply oil to a person or a thing. Anointing did have its uses for ordinary purposes such as with scented oils or protecting leather, and for medical purposes for the sick or the wounded (although not necessarily with oil). Sacred anointing was to dedicate a thing or person to God. The oil symbolized the Holy Spirit, empowering them for a particular assignment in the service of God. “Messiah” from the Hebrew word “mashiah”, and Christ from the Greek “christos”, meaning “the anointed one” or the one who is empowered to do the assignment (in this case, redeem mankind back to God). So what does this have to do with artists? God has given artists the raw talent to create. Again, training and practice help refine that talent. But when it comes to doing an assignment or accomplishing a task for God involving your creativity, it can ONLY be done with the empowerment from God working with the basic talent. No matter what level of natural skill and experience an artist has, they can not accomplish something of Kingdom value (God’ s plan) without yielding your talent to the Holy Spirit. God uses His people in order to accomplish His plan. He especially uses the gifts and talents that he has to placed in you to accomplish a plan through you. A biblical example of this can be seen in Exodus 31:1-11. God’s plan was to demonstrate that He is present and active with His people by living among them in the Tabernacle while they were in the wilderness. God wanted the Tabernacle to be designed, adorned and furnished in a specific way and was going to accomplish this through a creative team from among the Israelites that He selected. Although these artists had natural skill, ability, and know-how, they could not complete the task according to God’s plan unless they used the understanding and wisdom that the Spirit of God empowered them with (Exodus 31:3-4). Anointed is further defined: * Being able to do what you normally can’t do. * When the super (the power of God) comes upon the natural (the talent). An example of trying to accomplish a task with talent alone and no anointing is how the Israelites created the golden calf. The calf was created with artistic talent, skill, experience and ability to be used in a feast for the Lord (Exodus 32:5), but the anointing was not there. If these artists were making an effort to surrender themselves and their talent to the Spirit of God, I think they would have seen that this use of their talent did not please God, but rather was a sin against God. So how does the talented artist flow in the anointing? The names of the two artists whom God used to head up the “Art Direction” of building the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenant help to remind us:”Bezalel”- whose name means “in the shadow of El (God)”. You can not be in the shadow of God unless you are in the presence of God. Keeping regular quiet time with God keeps us in tune with the plan of God. “Aholiab”- whose name means “Father’s Tent”, a man under authority. Obedient. As the Spirit of God reveals His direction for the use of your talent, you will be challenged to walk out the plan and obey. Feel free to download worksheet that recaps key points from our Anointed versus Talent workshop: http://www.geocities.com/tonysnipes/anointed.pdf Tony Snipes is an Artist, ministry leader, Illustrator and founder of “The Kreative Kingdom”, whose goal is to help artists seek God’s purpose and plan for their creative talent. 10 Secrets Of Trade Show Selling - #9

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By T. Falcon Napier To make a REAL impression, give QUALIFIED visitors something that shows you understand their needs and want to give them something that will actually help them. A package of tissues imprinted with the name of an allergy medication is much more effective than a pen or a magnet. Why? Because it’s actually useful - and it reminds them of the medication when they need it most. Put a little thought into it and come up with something unique, thoughtful and useful and - you’ll have a premium that pays! But the most effective premium is one that would be of GREAT value to your ideal prospect but of little or NO value to visitors with no interest in your products or services. For example, a commercial printer could create a pre-press reference guide - or a booklet of designs and layouts. At the same time, you should never GIVE away what you hope to SELL. Instead, offer a related support product or a discount on your goods - something that gets them to visit your place of business or ensures a future meeting. Finally, premiums should be EARNED - not GIVEN away. Your visitor must DO something before you give them the premium - like fill out a survey or have a conversation or sample something. The premium is your way of saying, “Thank You!” A giant bowl of key rings and a place to drop business cards doesn’t make anyone feel appreciated - and doesn’t get you the leads you need. Look for the last article in the “Secrets of Trade Show Selling” series, where we will cover “snob appeal.” T. All You Need to Know About Swiss Banking

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Joseph Kenny There is a common misconception that people who cannot store their unaccounted wealth in their own country open accounts in Swiss banks. Even though this may be true to an extent, Swiss banks are well known for their sophisticated and discreet banking services. Many of the rich and famous like film stars, business entrepreneurs, top government officials, presidents, etc, are reputed to have Swiss bank accounts. Then again, it is also said one need not be a multi-millionaire to open a Swiss bank account. Brief Background of the Swiss Banking System One of the most prosperous and economically advanced nations, Switzerland has the worlds largest gross domestic product (GDP). There are nearly 400 banks in Switzerland, which range from the Two Big Banks, to smaller banks, serving single communities or selective clients. Considered as the worlds largest offshore financial center, the Swiss banking sector is renowned for its privacy, stability and protection of their customers information and assets. The Federal Banking Commission (FBC) regulates these banks. Opening a Swiss Account Often freely available, a Swiss bank account provides total confidentiality, strict privacy, and is tax-free. However, certain documents are required as proof to open a Swiss account. For example, people who are not residents of Switzerland need to furnish their passports, along with a passport size photograph. Depending on the profession, a current bank statement would be required to determine the clients current financial condition. Along with this, certain personal information, like the date of birth, country of origin, etc., is also required. A useful feature of Swiss banking is that it can also be done via correspondence as long as the customers follow bank rules and regulations. The bank and customer could interact through the Internet, telephone or snail mail. However, a drawback of Swiss banking is that non-residents are expected to pay a hefty amount as deposit, and, the smaller accounts are more expensive to maintain. There is a clause especially for US citizens wherein they are expected to refrain from making any business transaction through their Swiss accounts, to keep their account privacy intact. Deposit A security deposit is needed in case the customer wants to obtain a credit card. Approximately 1.5 to 2 times the monthly credit limit is demanded, depending on the bank the customer chooses. This deposit is returned when the customer decides to discontinue the credit card, and has paid all outstanding bills. Confidentiality There are legends about mysterious numbered accounts in Swiss banks. Some high security bank accounts are given pseudonyms or special names instead of issuing them in the name of the customer, to preserve the anonymity of the customer. This number or name is used wherever the customer is referred. Moreover, even bank employees are expected to respect the customers privacy, the failure of which could land them in prison for several months. However, Swiss banks, being very particular about preventing money laundering, crosscheck the authenticity of the information provided by the customer. If, during the scrutiny, the bank finds the information of a potential or existing customer connected to some criminal activity, a Swiss judge or prosecutor issues a lifting order. These investigations could include international criminal investigation for tax fraud, insider trading, or the infamous terrorist financing of recent times. Closing of an Account Despite a few negative notions about Swiss banking, closing an account is said to be easier than expected. No financial penalty is demanded, and neither is the money held hostage, like it is done in other off shore banking. To conclude, the secrecy and discreet nature of Swiss banking makes them convenient and dependable. This not only helps customers to save money, but also is a viable means of attaining economic superiority in the business world and society as a whole. Court Cases

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Richard Lahaie Starting a court case Parties are encouraged to give information to each other, in am attempt to prevent the need for so many court cases to be started. So before a claim is issued, especially in personal injury cases, a pre-action Protocol should be followed. This is a list of things to be done and if they parities do not follow the procedure and give the required information to the other party they may be liable for certain costs if they then make a court claim. The information is usually in a letter explaining brief details of how the claim arises; why it is claimed that the other party is at fault; details of injury or other damage and any other relevant matters. The defendant is them given three months to investigate the claim and must then reply, setting out if liability is admitted or if it is denied, with the reasons of the denial. If expert evidence is going to be needed then the parties should try to agree to use one expert. This should lead to many claims being settled, but there will still be some which need to go to court. Which court to use? Where the decision is made to go to court, then the first problem is which court to use. The two courts which hear civil cases are : - The County Court - The High Court For cases where the claim is for 15,000 or less, the case must be started in the County Court. For larger claims you can usually choose to start a case in either the county court of the high court. This is still the position after the Woolf reforms. However, there are some restrictions laid down in the high court and county courts jurisdiction order 1991. These are that: - Personal injury cases over 50,000 must be started in the county court - Defamation actions must be started in the high court. So for most cases over 15.000 a claimant will be able to choose the most convenient court for starting the case. The main points to consider in making the decision are the amount that is being claimed and whether the case is likely to raise a complex issue of law. The fact that a case is started in one court does not necessarily mean that the trial will be there; cases may be transferred from one court to the other for the actual trial, ir this is thought necessary. Once a case is defended the case is then allocated to the appropriate track and at the same time it is possible for it to be transferred to another court. Issuing a claim If you are using the county court, then you can choose to issue the claim in any of the 230 or so county courts in the country. If you are using the high court, then you can go to one of the 20 district registries or the main court in London. You need a claim form called N1. The court office will give you notes explaining how to fill in the form. Finding a Metabolism Booster

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

By Andrew Bicknell People everywhere are always looking for ways to burn excess body fat. For those who are already in good physical condition finding the next metabolism booster is a must in their fat burning quest. Using a metabolism booster can be a big aid for anyone trying to keep excess weight off and most people who have a lean, defined physique take their metabolism supplements very seriously and are likely to try any possible product or exercise program that is though to be a metabolism booster. The herbal market is flooded with products that tout their ability as metabolism boosters which help reduce excess body fat. While nobody is disputing the advantages of burning excess calories the concern begins when the misinformed individual thinks that all they need to lose weight is take one of these “miracle” metabolism boosters. Without a complete exercise and diet program simply taking a metabolism booster will have little benefit. Caffeine is the main stimulant contained in these calorie burning supplements and these allow for more fat burning through a longer workout. A raise in body temperature is also another way metabolism boosters can burn excess calories. As strange as it may sound drinking a glass of cold water can also create a boost in metabolism. It’s simple really, drinking cold water not only causes a rise in body temperature, which in turn burns more calories, particularly when doing any sort of physical activity. Water also helps the kidneys to flush themselves leaving the liver un-encumbered to burn fat from the body more efficiently. While it is not a miracle cure for the overweight, water is an important part of the metabolism of the body.
